Paris, France, Summer 2003

We traveled from Bordeaux to Paris on the high-speed train (about 3 hours of travel time).  We continued our regimen of walking at least 8 miles a day.  One day we went to the Louvre and walked about 8 miles in its halls...it's huge.  We also enjoyed the Musee D'Orsay (I think my spelling might be wrong here), where art from the post 1800 period is gathered together.  Their impressionist collection is expansive.  We also took a day at Versailles, an easy train ride from downtown Paris.  The Hall of Mirrors is, as the young say, OTT (over the top) and the gardens are stunning.  We highly recommend it.

We have one tip to all travelers to Paris...buy a museum pass at a metro station.  The pass is good for one, three or five days and allows you to go to the head of the lines.  Versailles, for example, had a line that was a quarter of mile long: we just walked in.  And, if you go to enough museums, you'll save a lot of money too.

The one glitch during this part of the trip was food poisoning.  I had it...and how.  I won't go into detail, but let's just say that my body used all the possible ways to get rid of toxin.  It was ugly and painful.

Ah, Paris

20,000 twinkle lights are now on the Eiffel Tower. What was once stunning is now breath-taking too.

Musee D'orsay, once a railway station, now holds the great art of the great impressionists.

There are many beautiful paintings at the Louvre. This one is my favorite.

The scale of Versailles must be seen to be believed.  Here are a few snaps.  Pictures 1 and 2 are of the gardens.  Picture 3 is of the Hall of Mirrors.
